About Us

Wild Honey Ranch is located at 7,000 feet in the Zuni Mountains of northwestern New Mexico.  Ranch owners Rhett and Sarah are hobbyist beekeepers who specialize in holistic hive management and the production of raw honey.  The ranch holds a certification (Certified Naturally Grown) that is tailored for small-scale, direct-market farmers/beekeepers who use the highest ideals of organic methods and practices.

Mission

To implement holistic hive management in natural habitats.

Honey House

We package and sell raw honey. While there are many definitions of raw honey, we define comb honey as being the purest, rawest honey available, which is why we specialize in comb honey production. Extracted honey can also be raw, but it’s important that you know the source. Our extracted honey has not been heat treated or filtered. Furthermore, we do not treat our hives with chemicals or other forms of medications. Our hives are located in a rural mountainous region free from commercial farming. The bees forage nectar and pollen from the natural wildflowers and trees within the region.

Certified Naturally Grown

Our apiaries are Certified Naturally Grown which is a peer-reviewed alternative to the USDA Organic seal. This certification ensures that our hives are free of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and genetically engineered crops. For more information visit www.cngfarming.org

Beekeeping Store

We build hives that we believe work well in our climate and adhere to natural methods of beekeeping.  Overtime, we will add additional hive and beekeeping equipment to the store.

Vision

Share our knowledge and experience with those who want to keep healthy honeybee colonies in unique and fragile ecosystems.

Zuni Mountain Bee Project

The Zuni Mountain Bee Project is part of our beekeeping program. We set swarm traps to catch wild bees throughout the Zuni Mountain region. Wild bees (also known as survival bees) have proven to be resilient in our harsh but survivable micro-climate. We make our queens by natural selection from the captured swarms. We call this process natural queen rearing.

Beehive Stand Usefulness

Have you noticed that honeybees, in a natural setting, build their hives high off the ground? Honeybees consistently choose a swarm trap placed high off the ground over a swarm trap placed near the ground. Our certification requires that we keep hives at a minimum of...
